Getting customers
Can AI replace a sales team?
For a small company, AI can replace much of the repetitive work a junior sales team does: finding prospects, sending emails, following up, answering common replies and booking meetings. It does not replace the person who runs a complex negotiation, builds a deep relationship or decides strategy. Most small teams do best using AI for the first steps and people for the close.

What a sales team actually does
Strip a sales role down and you find a few kinds of work. Finding the right people. Contacting them. Following up. Answering simple questions. Booking time. Running the real conversation. Handling price and terms. Keeping the records straight.
The first five are repetitive and happen at volume. The sixth and seventh are judgment and trust. The last is bookkeeping.
Where AI is a fair swap
AI does the first five well, and it does them every day without being asked. It does not take sick days, and it answers the reply that arrives at 9 pm. For a small company that never had an SDR, it adds capacity that did not exist.
For cost, the arithmetic is simple. A Frontier plan is $79 a month, which is $948 a year. A full-time hire costs far more than that before you count tools and management time. Our page on how much an SDR costs shows the comparison.
Where people still win
A person reads a room. They notice that a buyer is nervous about a boss, they know when to push and when to wait, and they can say no to a bad deal. Complex purchases with many decision makers, high prices and long cycles lean on this.
A person also owns the relationship afterward: the renewal, the referral, the favor. Software does not.
A realistic split
For most small companies the best answer is both. AI finds, reaches, follows up and books. The owner or a salesperson takes the meetings that result. That keeps your best people on conversations and off the copy-and-paste.
Our comparison, AI SDR versus a human SDR, goes through it step by step.
