Conversations

Find the Reddit threads where people are asking for what you sell.

Conversations is the part of Rocketship that watches Reddit for you. It finds threads where someone asks for what you sell, scores how well each one fits your business, and drafts a helpful reply and a short direct message in your voice.

You read the draft, change what you like, and post it from your own Reddit account with one tap. Rocketship never posts, votes or sends messages on Reddit for you.

Included on the plans that get you customers. Every monthly plan starts with a 7-day free trial, card required.

What it does

It does the searching and the first draft

People ask for recommendations on Reddit every day. "Does anyone know a good roofer in Raleigh?" "What do you all use for invoicing?" Those are buyers, in their own words, asking for exactly what you sell. The slow part is finding them. It means searching a handful of subreddits, reading dozens of threads and deciding which ones are worth an answer.

Conversations does that part. It searches for threads that match your business and your buyer, gives each one a fit score so the best ones come first, and writes two drafts for each: a reply to post in the thread and a short DM. Both mention that you own the business, and neither carries a link. You can tell it which subreddits and keywords to watch.

Many of the threads it finds are ones that rank in Google. They keep sending readers for months, so a helpful answer there can be read long after it was posted.

What it does not do

You post. Rocketship never does.

Conversations does not post comments, vote, send direct messages or create accounts. It has no fleet of accounts and it does not buy votes. Everything that appears on Reddit appears because you pressed the button, from your own account.

That is on purpose. Reddit communities remove promotion fast, and an account that only exists to sell gets banned. Posting from your own account, with a real history and an honest disclosure, is the approach that holds up. It also matches how the rest of Rocketship works: your email goes out from your own Gmail.

How a thread becomes a customer

Five steps, and one of them is yours

  1. Step 1
    It finds the thread

Conversations searches for people asking for what you sell and saves the best matches with a fit score. It skips threads that are too old to take a comment, when it can tell.

  2. Step 2
    You read the draft

Each thread comes with a reply and a DM in your voice. Read the thread first, since the draft is a starting point and you know the situation.

  3. Step 3
    You edit it

Change anything that does not sound like you. Add a detail only you would know. Check the subreddit's rules.

  4. Step 4
    You post it

Tap Copy and open. Rocketship copies the text and opens the thread, and you paste it from your own account.

  5. Step 5
    You watch for the reply

If the person answers, you carry on the conversation yourself, the way you would with anyone who wrote to you.

Why your own account

Replies from a real account work better

A reply from an account with a history, signed by a person who says what they do, reads as help. A reply from a new account that exists to sell reads as an ad, and readers and moderators treat it that way. Using your own account also means the person who answers is talking to you, not to a stranger who was paid to say something.

If you want to see the full process without software, read how to find customers on Reddit. Conversations is the same process, with the searching and drafting done for you.

The rules

Rules we follow, and rules you should know

  • Read each subreddit's rules before you post. Some ban business replies, some allow them in certain threads, some allow help but no links.
  • Say that you own the business. The drafts include a disclosure, and you should keep it.
  • Do not paste the same reply into many threads. Edit each one for the person who asked.
  • Do not use more than one account or ask friends to vote. Reddit's rules treat that as spam.
  • Send a DM only when the person asked for one, replied to you or the subreddit allows it.
  • Check that a thread still takes replies. Reddit closes comments on very old posts.
Where it sits

One part of getting a customer

Conversations finds customers where they are already asking. Email reaches the ones who are not. In Rocketship the two sit side by side: the workers email buyers by name from your own Gmail, follow up and book the meeting, and Conversations covers the people who raise their hand on Reddit. Read what Rocketship is.

What it costs

Included on the plans that get you customers

Conversations has a monthly allowance on each plan. One conversation is one thread found and drafted.

Every monthly plan starts with a 7-day free trial, card required. During the trial you get a quarter of the monthly allowance (8 on Launch, 25 on Frontier and 125 on Mission Control). See how the free trial works and the pricing page.

Conversations helps you find people who are asking. It does not promise you customers. Results depend on what you sell, which communities your buyers use and how useful your replies are.

Common questions

Will I get banned for using Conversations?
Conversations never posts, votes or messages for you, so nothing happens on your account unless you do it. You post from your own account, say you own the business, and follow each subreddit's rules. Spam, multiple accounts and bought votes are what get accounts banned.
Can it post on Reddit for me?
No. Conversations finds threads and drafts the reply and the DM. You post them yourself, from your own Reddit account, with one tap. Rocketship does not post, vote or send messages on Reddit.
Does it work for local service businesses?
Yes, if your buyers ask for recommendations on Reddit, which many do in city and neighborhood subreddits. You can tell Conversations which subreddits and keywords to watch. If your buyers do not use Reddit, it will find little.
Does it find new posts or older threads?
Both. Many results are older threads that still rank in Google and keep sending readers. Reddit closes comments on very old posts, so check that a thread still takes replies before you write.
Which plans include Conversations?
Launch includes 30 conversations a month, Frontier 100 and Mission Control 500. Builder shows a preview of found threads without drafts. A trial gets a quarter of the plan's allowance.
Does Conversations guarantee customers?
No. It finds people who are asking for what you sell and gives you a draft. Whether a thread becomes a customer depends on the thread, your answer and your offer.
