Quora can bring you clients, but slowly, and only if you sell something people research before they buy. The people reading a Quora question are usually still deciding what to do. They are not yet looking for a vendor. That tells you what to answer and how much to expect.
The method is simple. Pick questions where the asker has a problem you solve. Write an answer that would be useful even if nobody ever clicked your name. Let your profile tell the reader who you are and where to find you. This guide gives you a filter for choosing questions, a structure for the answer, and a 40-minute weekly routine, using your own account throughout.
Who asks on Quora, and who doesn't
Quora skews toward explanation and comparison: "How long does it take to...", "How do I choose...", "Is it worth hiring...". Those are the stage before a purchase. That works well for considered, higher-priced services such as consulting, legal-adjacent services, software setup, specialized contracting and coaching. It works badly for urgent local jobs. Nobody with a flooded basement asks Quora.
Compare it with the alternatives honestly. On Reddit, people sometimes post "does anyone know a good...", which is closer to a buying request. In a neighborhood group, the ask is local and urgent. On Quora the ask is more often "help me understand." How to find people asking for recommendations online compares where each kind of ask shows up.
A four-point filter for picking questions
Score each question one point for each yes. Answer only the ones that get three or four.
- Does the asker describe a problem you solve, in their own words? "Our startup needs SOC 2 and we have no security person" qualifies. "What is SOC 2?" is a definition request.
- Is the question about choosing, hiring, pricing or timing? Those are the questions people ask just before they spend money.
- Does the question page show up on the first page of Google when you search the exact wording? If so, your answer will be read for months, not days.
- Can you answer from your own work, with one detail only someone who does this would know?
Search Quora for the phrases your clients use, then for the questions around your service: "how much does," "how long does," "should I hire," "is it worth." Skip questions with hundreds of answers already unless you have a clearly different angle. A fresh question with four answers is better than an old one with eighty.
Write an answer that stands alone
Start with the direct answer in the first two lines, because many readers see only the first lines before they decide to read on. Then give the reasoning, one example with real numbers, and what you would do in the asker's position. Close without a pitch.
Here is a structure that works for a consultant like Ayesha Raman, who helps software startups prepare for security audits:
Short answer: for a Type 2 report, plan on roughly six to twelve months from kickoff, and much of that is the observation window, not hands-on work. Here is how the time breaks down... (a month or two on policies and tooling, then months of evidence collection, then the auditor's review). If you already have single sign-on and a ticketing system, you can usually start the clock sooner. I help startups with this, so I've seen where teams lose time: the most common delay is nobody owning the evidence, not the technology.
That answer states a number, shows the reasoning, says who she is in a single plain sentence, and is useful with no click at all. Do not write the sentence that begins "For more information, visit." If the answer is good, people look at your profile on their own.
Make your profile do the selling
Treat your profile as the landing page. Add a credential line, the short description that appears beside your name on each answer, that says what you do in plain words: "Compliance consultant for software startups." Fill in the bio with the kinds of clients you help, a location if it matters, and one way to reach you. Use a real photo and your real name, since this is a trust channel.
Link to a page that continues the conversation. A short page on your own site with your services and an email works. A home page crowded with offers does not. Do not use a URL shortener or tracking-heavy links.
When to put a link in an answer
Quora's spam policies target affiliate links and obvious promotion, and answers that look like ads can be removed. A link to your own page is acceptable when it adds something the answer could not, such as a calculator, a checklist, or a sample document, and when you say it is yours. Links in Quora answers are generally marked nofollow, so they send readers but do not help your Google ranking. Read Quora's current policies before you start, since they change.
A sound rule: your first ten answers have no link at all. Then add one only when the reader would plainly want it. Never ask friends to upvote your answers, and never create a second account to do it.
A 40-minute routine, twice a week
- Minutes 0 to 10: search your phrases and the Quora feed. Score questions. Pick one or two.
- Minutes 10 to 35: write one answer with an example. Save a copy in a document for reuse.
- Minutes 35 to 40: reply to comments on your recent answers and any messages.
Reuse is where the time pays back. An answer you write for Quora can become a section of your website, a LinkedIn post, or a reply on a forum. Do not paste the same text everywhere unchanged.
Tracking leads from Quora
Give the Quora link its own page or a URL that includes a source tag, and add one line to your intake form or first call: "How did you hear about me?" Note any email that mentions Quora.
Decide in advance what a fair test looks like. Sixteen answers over eight weeks is about 11 hours of work. Suppose that leads to five emails, two calls and one client worth $6,000. That is a good outcome, not a forecast, but it shows the arithmetic: if a client is worth thousands, a channel that brings one or two a quarter can pay for the time. If your jobs are worth $200, it will not. After eight weeks, keep it, trim it, or drop it based on your count.

On Reddit, Conversations finds the threads where people ask for what you sell and drafts a reply you post from your own account.
Quora builds trust over months, while some buyers need an email this week. Rocketship finds the buyers, emails them from your own Gmail, follows up, and books the meeting on its own. Plans that get you customers start at $24.99 a month (Launch), and both Launch and Frontier start with a 7-day free trial, card required.
