Mailshake is a sequencing tool: you load contacts, write a series of emails, and it sends them on a schedule. The job is sequenced outreach that stops when someone replies. To compare it with any alternative, ask four questions of each: who finds the contacts, who writes the emails, who sends them, and who reads and answers the replies. The answers show what the subscription covers and what is still your work, which is how the real monthly cost gets worked out.
Mailshake facts are as published on its pricing page, October 2026. This page does not rank tools. Existing comparison pages on this site cover Instantly, lemlist and Smartlead. This one is about the category of sending tool and how to test any of them.
What Mailshake sells, per its pricing page
Three plans are listed, with a fourth for agencies. Starter is $29 a month ($25 billed annually): one email address per account, 1,500 sends a month, 50 data finder credits, mail merge, A/B testing and AI email writing. Email Outreach is $49 a month ($45 annually): two email addresses per account, unlimited sends, 50 data finder credits, plus email rotation, personalization, advanced scheduling and CRM integrations. Sales Engagement is $99 a month ($85 annually): ten email addresses, unlimited sends, 2,500 data finder credits, five phone numbers and dialer minutes to North American numbers listed as unlimited. The Agency plan is priced through sales.
Add-ons are listed separately: Data Finder at $19 a month ($17 annually) and Ready to Use Mailboxes at twelve dollars a month (eleven annually). On the question of a trial, the page answers no: payment is collected up front, and onboarding support is included. Keep that in mind for the test plan below.
The four questions
Take any sequencing tool and fill in this grid. It takes ten minutes and tends to change the comparison.
| Question | Sequencing tool | Gmail and a sheet by hand | An AI worker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who finds the contacts? | You, or credits and add-ons | You | The worker, from your description of the buyer |
| Who writes? | You, sometimes with AI drafting | You | The worker, in your voice |
| Who sends? | The tool, on a schedule | You, one at a time or with scheduling | The worker, from your own Gmail |
| Who reads and answers replies? | You; the tool stops the sequence | You, and you stop the follow-ups yourself | The worker replies, and books the meeting |
The first column is what a sequencing tool covers by design: the sending and the schedule. The rest stays with you. That is not a flaw. It is the scope of the product, and the thing to check is whether you have the time for the rest.
Alternatives by category
A sequencer from the same category differs on details: how many mailboxes, whether sends rotate, what the data add-on holds, the price. Those details are on each vendor's page and on the comparison pages linked above. A different category is doing it yourself in Gmail, using scheduled send and a tracker. Gmail schedule send covers what it can and cannot do, and email outreach best practices gives the checks to run before each batch. A third category is an AI worker that does the finding, writing, sending and replying. Rocketship is that: it finds buyers by name, writes and sends from your own Gmail, follows up, stops when someone replies, answers, and books the meeting.
Cost once you add the parts
The subscription is not the whole cost. Take 200 contacts a month. On the published figures, Email Outreach at $49 plus the Data Finder add-on at $19 is $68 a month billed monthly, or $62 a month billed annually ($45 plus $17). Add the mailbox you send from. Then add your hours. Finding and checking 200 contacts, say 3 minutes each, is 10 hours. Writing and loading two batches, 2 hours. Reading and answering replies, 15 minutes a day over 22 working days, 5.5 hours. That is 17.5 hours a month. At $50 an hour of your time that is $875, which is more than twelve times the subscription.
Now the same 200 contacts with an AI worker doing the finding, writing and reading. Rocketship Launch is $24.99 a month and includes 50 leads a month, so 200 contacts a month needs Frontier at $79 (200 leads a month, 2 AI workers). Those are different products with different unit counts, so do not compare them on price alone. Compare what you still do yourself. What a sales stack costs assembled prices this out for a full stack, and the pricing page lists the plans.
Sending from your own Gmail
Ask each tool whether it sends through your own Google account or through mailboxes it provides. Mailshake lists Ready to Use Mailboxes as a paid add-on. Sending from your own account means replies land in the inbox you already use and the mail comes from an address your contacts can recognize. Sending from provided mailboxes means a separate address and a separate reputation to watch. Neither is wrong. The question is which one fits how you want customers to see you. Sending from an alias in Gmail covers the role-address middle ground.
Testing any sequencer over two weeks
Use the same list in each tool so results are comparable. Take 60 contacts and split them at random into two groups of 30 per tool you want to test. Day 1: write the first email and two follow-ups once, and load them. Measure setup time with a clock. Days 2 to 4: send the first email. Day 4 and day 9: follow-ups. Check three behaviors on purpose. Reply from a second address to your own test contact and see whether the sequence stops. Put in one deliberately wrong address and see how the bounce is shown. Look at what the recipient sees in the From line and signature. At day 14, record setup minutes, minutes per day spent on the tool, delivered emails, replies, and any follow-up that went out after a reply. A tool with a payment-up-front rule needs a smaller commitment: choose the lowest plan and the monthly billing for the test.
If your real need is meetings, not a tool, say it plainly. Rocketship finds the buyers by name, emails them from your own Gmail, follows up, and books the meeting on its own. Plans that get you customers start at $24.99 a month (Launch), and every monthly plan starts with a 7-day free trial, card required. Answering your existing number is included; a dedicated line is $5 a month. See the AI workers.
