Getting customers in a service business

A plumber, a dental practice and an accounting firm all get handed the same advice: post more, ask for referrals, be patient. It works until the referrals slow down, and it gives you nothing to actually do on the week they do.

So these are written business by business, because the buyer really is different in each one. A property manager choosing a plumber is not a homeowner. A commercial account is not a walk-in. A practice with slots to fill is not a contractor with a crew to keep busy, and a good week for one looks like a slow week for the other.

These are separate from the phone pieces elsewhere on this site, and the difference is worth stating: those are about what happens once somebody has already called you. These are about where that call comes from in the first place.
